Scarborough Sharks PeeWee BB Win in Huntsville
Sharks Win Tournament on Super Sunday
Although the Canadian Men's Olympic hockey team was not victorious
on Super Sunday the Scarborough Sharks Pee Wee Tier 1 team was. In
their first tournament and games since being recategorized from A
to BB the Shark Pee Wee team struck gold in the Great White North.
The Shark Pee Wee team went undefeated to win the 33rd Annual Huntsville
Girls Hockey Association tournament. The team started off with a hard
fought 3 to 3 tie against Orilla early Saturday morning. Following
this game the stellar goaltending pair of Nicole Mancini and Julie
Hook combined for three straight shutouts by not allow another goal
in the remaining three games, including the final.
Scoring was a complete team effort with all players getting on the
score sheet. Cynthia Cavanagh led the way with a hat trick in the
Sharks 6 to 0 win over Aurora. Allie Sherwin also potted three goals
in the tournament including the game winner versus Kingston in the
final. Riley Malthaner and Skylar Peters had key goals in the come
from behind tie versus Orilla and, Morgan Mallais found her scoring
touch again by opening the scoring in the game against Aurora. Assists
came from Anna Deinum, Bailey Kennedy, Natasha Zelinski, Kiana Tobia,
Carly McDonell, Ainsley Johnston and Ally Doyle.
At the end of the final game Ainsley Johnston was awarded the MVP
for the final game and Skylar Peters was presented with the championship
trophy by the Huntsville Girls Hockey Association. Team mate Emma
Williams was jealously missed as she was in Vancouver attending games
and cheering for the Women's and Men's Olympic hockey teams.
In addition to great hockey the Shark team enjoyed the amazing accommodations
and activities at Deerhurst Resort and, the team took advantage of
local attractions by skiing and snow boarding at Hidden Valley Ski
Resort and tubing at Rock Ridge Snow Park.
